Hello and Welcome!

Welcome to Butler Savvy Sews, a space where I intend to share my inspirations and discoveries for my textile work, my home and family life.

Quality Handmade Table Linens

My sweet cosy in-law-suite (many, many heartfelt thanks to my daughter and son-in-law) faces a wild woodland that changes beautifully with the seasons.  Spring is here, but soon in full summer bloom - shades of green, whispering winds and endless bird song. I often bicycle around our neighbourhood for inspiration. Inside, my suite is filled with vibrant small artworks, my textile creations and often wildflower garden posies to bring the outdoors indoors!  It’s definitely an eclectic space where colour splashes over a medley of textures.  So, although my space may not be how you would decorate, I love my small beautiful rooms.  And that is what is truly important right? Do what makes YOU happy, it doesn’t always have to be “on trend”.  Instead follow your decorating heart, bring joy to your soul and eye!

Made with Purpose, Sewn to Last

My work is not your Grandmother’s quilted treasures, although I do appreciate and often re-purpose vintage items. I design and sew crisp and clean line modern textiles mainly from locally sourced quality cotton and linen fabrics. With proper care these natural fabrics are trusted to last, giving you years of table top and home love!  I often add visual interest and whimsical touches with block prints or colourful hand stitching or both.

I put much thought into my work whether I’m creating table linens, baby blankets, home décor items, market totes or small wall hangings.  It’s a creative process that begins with fabrics and materials laid out in my studio, then I will usually create a collection of items taking inspiration from the seasons and often, joyful designs that move my heart.  I think about how the patterns and colours will work together, I visualize the design, sometimes taking days to change things around until I decide upon the final (hopefully final!) item! I then sketch my plans in my trusty “Create” journal. Once confident of the final work, I progress to measuring again and again, cutting and piecing together, then hours of slow and precise stitching paying great attention to detail.  It’s a one woman show here, but you are guaranteed a one-of-a-kind sustainable item, and that is kinda of special isn’t it?

Thank you for reading this first post, I’m happy to share my work with you as it brings great pleasure to my home and life, and hopefully yours as well!  Remember – try to buy local and support small makers.  We all appreciate your commitment to the slow creative movement!
